A detective with the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office could get up to 18-months in prison if he is convicted on a felony misconduct in public office charge. A judge ordered Sergeant Steven Bowers to stand trial during a hearing in Medford Wednesday. Bowers turned over the records in two unsolved murder cases to the producers of the Oxygen Network show, “Cold Justice.” Bowers admits he released the information, but says he didn’t intend to ignore department policies. The Wisconsin Professional Police Association says the case is baseless because Bowers wasn’t acting maliciously.
