A 33-year-old Manitowoc man is free on a $5,000 recognizance bond after allegedly strangling a relative. Alfredo Arostegui is charged with strangulation and battery—domestic violence related.
Police were called to a residence in the 1500 block of South 34th Street just after 6pm Tuesday evening where Arostegui and his relative live. The victim told officers that Arostegui became upset after he was denied use of a car to drive to Green Bay for work. He then threw furniture around the house proceeding to strike and strangle the victim, slamming a door on her 5 or 6 times before throwing her to the floor. The victim had trouble breathing but never lost consciousness.
Conditions of bail are that Arostegui have no contact with the victim or residence other than after 72 hours from today to pick up belongings accompanied by law enforcement and provide an address where he’ll reside to the court by tomorrow. His initial appearance is scheduled for July 16th at 2:30.
