The Manitowoc County Department of Public Works and Manitowoc County Recycling Center have released the results of their annual Clean Sweep Program. The Clean Sweep Program allots time for citizens, farm owners, and business owners to drop off unwanted chemicals. They were hoping to surpass the one million pound mark this year, after collecting since 1985. They surpassed that number with room to spare, with a total amount collected totaling 1,012, 978 pounds of unwanted waste collected over the years. This year, they were able to collect and safely dispose of 35,862 pounds, collected from 464 households, 12 farms, and 9 businesses. Households accounted for the majority, bringing in 28,264, followed by farms which brought in 4,875 pounds. The businesses accounted for the final 2,723 pounds of hazardous waste.
