Manitowoc native Ed Hansen is a 32-year Army and National Guard veteran and is President of Friends of Red Arrow Park, Incorporated. The non-profit was organized to revitalize Red Arrow Park on Manitowoc’s southside, with a rededication ceremony of a memorial area last July. Hansen says the 32nd Red-Arrow division, after which the city park is named, was one of the first divisions to be deployed for World War II.
Hansen, who as a youngster played on the cannons in the park, said they’ll be launching a fundraising initiative for a NEW Memorial called “Mourning Sun”, on July 18th , the anniversary of the founding of the 32nd division.
‘Mourning Sun’ will be constructed of Valders Limestone, with the point of the arrow open to the shaft of the arrow laid in red granite. Ed Hansen said of the revitalization, ”this is not a one man show…a lot of people are coming together to make this happen.”
