The WIAA Board of Control took action at its June meeting yesterday on some coaches committee recommendations involving Winter sports. Beginning in 2019-’20, a co-op team in Gymnastics would only be eligible for the tournament series if it includes only two schools, or if the combined enrollment of the program is less than the largest stand-alone school in their division. Individual competitors from those ineligible co-ops will be able to compete in the tournament. A second decision by the Board affects wrestling and allows teams with 8-or-less wrestlers, a waiver to scrimmage with other schools in the same predicament, up to 2-times per week during the regular season, starting this school year. There were also a number of Basketball recommendations considered by the Board of Control with 3 of those approved: “if there are an uneven number of schools for divisions 3-&-4, D-4 will have one-more school than division-3 under the tournament format. Other items passed in basketball is to limit schools to no-more-than 2 representatives at seed-meetings, and a requirement to have coaches enter a player’s stats 3-times during the regular season to be eligible for the WIAA 3-Point Challenge.
