An effort by the Department of Defense to identify service members who died during World War Two means a sailor from Wisconsin will be re-buried later this month. Navy Pharmacist’s Mate 1st Class John Schoonover of Port Edwards died aboard the U-S-S Oklahoma during the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack. He was 39 years old. Schoonover was one of more than 400 unidentified sailors buried in a mass gravesite in Hawaii. The D-O-D effort resulted in his remains being identified. Schoonover’s son says a funeral will be held at the Naval Air Station Pensacola.
