The mayor of La Crosse lists several reasons he vetoed an expansion project in a letter he sent to city council members. Mayor Tim Kabat says the concept includes unnecessary encroachment on Riverside Park. He also points out a lack of fiscal discipline shown by the council’s approval of a plan costing more than seven-million dollars more than the original budget. The city council had approved the expansion last week. Kabat says he wants the La Crosse Center board and architects go change the plans, avoid the park and stay within the 42-million dollar target price. The council could try to override his veto next month.
