We’ve been reminded this week of the dangers from torrential rainfall and flooding especially in northwest Wisconsin. But it can and did happen here: Highway-10 through Whitelaw was flooded yesterday closing the roadway for nearly a 24-hour period. Travis Waack, Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director, tells Seehafer News that “when you see those floodwaters……..”
After 15 inches of rain fell in Ashland County, where a 75-year old man died after he was found near his vehicle in the ditch. Waack advises “you too can find yourself in trouble in a hurry.”
Should flooding affect your home and you run your sump pump a lot, Waack tells us a battery backup is a good idea.
The County Emergency Services director warns area residents to be on alert for violent storms this summer.
For more information about flooding and severe weather go to: ready.gov or, if you have a specific question, Waack says you can call his office at 683-4207.
