Racine Unified School District is requesting new cameras after recently receiving new portable metal detectors. Officials say the district is set to do training and testing with the new equipment over the summer and will begin using it to monitor students in the fall. Racine Unified is trying to get more than $600,000 of the $100 million dollars the state set aside for school safety grants through the Department of Justice. The district hopes to train employees in several forms of mental health care as well as security procedures and violence prevention programs.
