Governor Scott Walker is awarding broadband grants for new high-speed internet services in Eau Claire, Vernon and Oconto counties. Packerland Broadband in Eau Claire County is receiving a $200,000 grant, the Vernon Communications Cooperative was awarded a $244,000 grant, and Bertram Communications is getting a $600,000 state grant. The governor’s office says 46 grants have been awarded as part of the largest round of broadband expansion grants in state history. A total of $7.69 million in grants are expected to extend broadband access to 16,000 businesses and 18,000 residential homes.
