A Kiel man appeared in federal court in Milwaukee to face charges of tampering with a consumer product. A criminal complaint states that Jonathan Tillman Lane was shown on video surveillance allegedly placing a wire connector and cigarette paper into Johnsonville sausage links on two separate occasions in late March of this year. A press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin said that Johnsonville had to close and discard all products that they believe could have been affected. All items were removed before the sausages were packaged. If convicted Lane faces up to 10 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine.
