The State of Wisconsin is boasting their lowest unemployment rate on record at 2.9%, and Sheboygan County is at an astonishing 2.6%. According to 9th Senate District Representative Devin LeMahieu, more than 4,000 people in Sheboygan County have gained employment over the past three years. While these are good trends, it has led to a workforce shortage. In an attempt to fix this new problem, the Red Raider Manufacturing program has partnered with the Sheboygan Area School District and Lakeshore Technical College to connect students with trade skills. Youth Apprentice Programs in Sheboygan Manitowoc and Calumet Counties are also offing high school Juniors and Senior on the job training, and have partnered with 72 area employers in Manitowoc County alone. The State has also invested $40 million in workforce training grants. LeMahieu said he plans on “continuing to help partner local employers with educators on creative ways to strengthen Wisconsin’s workforce.”
