Several explosions and a major fire at Wisconsin’s only refinery have resulted in a large-scale evacuation for people living and working in Superior. At least 15 people were injured, with 11 requiring hospitalization. One person is being treated for what hospital officials call “serious blast injuries.” The first explosion was reported at 10:00 A-M Thursday and when a larger fire erupted shortly after noon, firefighters couldn’t get close enough to fight the flames at the Husky Refinery. The fire was finally declared to be out at 6:45 P-M. Superior Mayor Jim Paine has declared a State of Emergency.
