The New Berlin School District estimates it would save 500-to-800-thousand dollars-a-year by closing one of its four elementary schools. The 400 students attending Orchard Lane Elementary would be spread among the three remaining schools. District leaders say they are still on the hook for millions of dollars in renovations and the schools are suffering from declining enrollments. No final decisions have been made yet, but some parents are resisting. The next school board meeting in New Berlin is set for May 14th.
