The Green Bay and De Pere Antiquarian Society is proud to announce its 95th Anniversary. In 1923 a group of civic-minded women joined forces to protect historic buildings and artifacts around Brown County. Early fundraisers included tea parties and the sale of historic books. Today the organization includes over 200 men and women who are dedicated to the preservation of local history. In a news release, they state, “We are proud to have gifted over $700,000 to local museums and historical societies to purchase, restore and preserve historical buildings and artifacts.” In addition, The Antiquarian Society was pivotal in the initiating a fundraising campaign that raised $1.3 million to save artwork at the Brown County Library. There is hardly a historical place in Brown County where you will not see the impact of The Antiquarian Society. They will be celebrating our anniversary and the amazing work they have accomplished at their Annual Luncheon on Friday, April 27th at The Riverside Ballroom from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
