Governor Scott Walker unveiled today (Thursday) a 100-million-dollar plan directed toward improving school safety in Wisconsin. The plan calls for the creation of the Office of School Safety under the Wisconsin Department of Justice. The plan also includes establishing a 100-million-dollar School Safety Grant Program under the Office of School Safety. Walker has called for a special session in the state legislature to pass his seven-part plan which will require mandatory reporting for any threats of school violence and amending the bullying statue to include prompt parental notification. State Assembly Majority Leader Robin Vos says he’ll schedule a one-day special session for next week. State Senate Democratic Leader Jennifer Shilling criticized the plan and accused the governor of siding with the National Rifle Association and ignoring student concerns about guns.
