Mike Flentje, the women’s basketball coach at Silver Lake College has announced that he is retiring. He has spent the last eleven years leading the Lady Lakers, including three straight trips to the national championship tournament to close out his amazing career. What makes that statistic even more impressive, is that when he inherited the team, they were only winning a few games a year. This past year, Flentje led the Lady Lakers through a 14 game winning streak, a 22-8 record, and a trip to semifinal at the National Tournament in Uniontown Pennsylvania. Flentje will not be leaving his former team high and dry however. He will be staying involved with the athletic department at SLC for the next few weeks to help with administrative tasks to prepare for next season, to help ensure a smooth transition fore the next head coach. Flentje stated, “I want to thank Silver Lake College for giving me the opportunity to be a head coach here. It has truly been a blessing.”
