A fire at an Appleton duplex early yesterday morning left nine people without a home. Reports indicate the fire broke out just after 2:00 AM. Appleton Fire Department crews responded to the E. Roeland Avenue duplex to find half of the structure fully engulfed in flames. While all nine occupants were able to escape, two did receive burns and suffered for smoke inhalation. They were treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. The high winds made battling the inferno difficult, as they helped spread the blaze, and affected visibility, according to officials. While the cause has not yet been determined, the damage was estimated to be around $175,000.
