Thanks to a Thrivent Action Team project, $500 has been designated towards Silver Lake College’s Clothes for Careers closet.
This funding effort was spearheaded by Thrivent Financial members Colleen Cooper of Appleton, a Silver Lake College employee, and her husband, John. As part of their membership privileges, each could designate $250 to the project of their choice.
The Coopers chose Silver Lake College’s clothes closet, which collects professional clothing to help its students advance in the business world.
Silver Lake College’s SLC Works initiative requires all residential students to work on campus or to participate in internships in the community while they earn their four-year degree. Clothes for Careers got its start after it was discovered that many of the students did not have the professional clothing necessary for these positions. The closet’s goal is to provide at least one or two professional outfits for each student who needs them for jobs, interviews or professional events.
“I thought this would be a great way to support Silver Lake College as it prepares its students to enter the workforce. I chose to designate my portion of the fund towards women’s clothes and John designated his portion towards men’s clothes,” said Colleen Cooper, Silver Lake College’s director of development and alumni engagement. “We are grateful for Thrivent’s support. I encourage everyone to check with their financial institutions and other organizations with similar programs so they can utilize those funds to make a difference in their communities.”
