A Wisconsin man returns to court in Marathon County next week to face charges he killed his girlfriend’s dog during an argument. Matthew Newton had a preliminary hearing Wednesday. Investigators say Newton confronted his girlfriend when he found messages she had been sending to another man in Madison. While they were arguing, she says he snapped the neck of her Yorkshire terrier and threw it against the wall. He’s been charged with mistreatment of an animal causing death and disorderly conduct. If he is found guilty, he could face nearly 10 years in prison.
