The Sheboygan Police Department is encouraging residents and businesses with video surveillance systems to participate in the Video Registry Program.
Your camera system records activity on your own property, but it may also capture movement and actions occurring in areas around your property. This kind of footage could have a big impact on and be a valuable tool in solving crimes.
The Video Registry Program is already utilized throughout communities in the US. If you register your exterior facing security camera system, that will only be known to you and the Sheboygan Police Department.
If a crime occurs in the vicinity of a registered camera a representative from the Sheboygan Police Department may be in contact with the registered owner to ask to review the recorded footage from a specific date and time a criminal activity occurred.
Under no circumstances will the Sheboygan Police Department utilize this information to view footage/feeds directly from the camera’s owned by the registrants.
