Ten long-term care facilities closed in Wisconsin last year, compared to six in 2016. Nursing home providers say Medicaid reimbursement rates are not keeping up with the costs they deal with to provide the needed care. The business model isn’t working. Those reimbursement rates are affecting the nursing homes’ ability to recruit and retain workers. One statewide survey finds more than 11-thousand open caregiver positions in Wisconsin as recently as 2016. Reimbursement rates are being increased by two percent each year under the current state budget.
