Bail was set at $1000 cash for a 32-year-old Manitowoc man facing several charges in connection to a police chase early Sunday morning. Eric Czekala is charged with fleeing/eluding, obstruction and carrying a concealed knife. According to police, an officer was on a routine patrol on Franklin Street around 12:45 am when he recognized a passenger in a vehicle from previous encounters. A run on the license plate discovered that 29-year-old Christina Bies was the registered owner and had an active warrant. Czekala, who was the driver, took off after the officer attempted to pull the unit over. He eventually stopped and took off on foot only to be captured a short time later with the help of K-9 Neko and taken into custody. He remains in the county jail with an initial appearance scheduled for next Monday afternoon at 2:30. Meanwhile—a search of Bies’ purse uncovered six oval shaped amphetamine pills. She’s been charged with possession of a schedule two drug and is being held in the county jail with her bail hearing set for tomorrow.
