A female is in custody charged with OWI first offense after striking a utility pole early this morning on Manitowoc’s southside. Captain Jason Frieboth tells Seehafer News that officers were called shortly after 12:30 to the 1000 block of South 17th Street and upon arrival found the pole on top of her car. Captain Frieboth adds the pole contained an MPU transformer and fiber optic cable that provides cable and internet service to southside residences. Witness reports indicate the woman fled the scene on foot and was located a short time later. She was brought to the hospital for field sobriety tests which she failed as she was placed under arrest. South 17th Street remains blocked off to traffic as MPU crews install a new utility pole. Meanwhile, internet and cable service will be restored periodically throughout the day but may be intermittent as crews work to fully restore service.
