Younkers in the Lakeshore Mall in Manitowoc is closing. Parent company Elder-Beerman—Boston Store announced that the Manitowoc location is one of nine in Wisconsin and 42 all together that will close their doors within a few months. Bill Tracy—President and CEO for Bonton released a statement this afternoon saying “as part of the comprehensive turnaround plan we announced in November we are taking the next steps in our efforts to move forward with a more productive store footprint.” He adds “including our recently announced store closures we expect to close a total of 47 stores in early 2018. We remain focused on executing our key initiatives to drive improved performance in an effort to strengthen our capital structure to support the business going forward.” Affected employees will be offered the opportunity to interview for available positions at other store locations but didn’t say if they’d be given preference. Bonton operates 260 stores including nine furniture galleries and four clearance centers in 24 states. Store clearance sales begin tomorrow using a liquidator and run approximately 10 to 12 weeks.
