Manitowoc Police Department statistics on violent crime show ‘mixed’ results in various crime categories. The city did ‘not’ record a homicide in 2017. Robbery incidents ‘doubled’…from 7-in 2016…to 14…last year. Assault cases went ‘down’ from 303 to 2-hundred-65…burglaries were down slightly from 168 to 164…larceny theft cases fell by 43…to 7-hundred-50 in 2017. Motor vehicle thefts were ‘up’..from 20…in 2016…to 29…last year. Overall, so-called part-1 crimes ‘dropped’ from 1,295 to 1,227. Figures also show adult criminal charges sent to the district attorney’s office ‘rose’ from 1,881 to 2,048..while ‘juvenile’ criminal charges sent to the Department of Human Services…went ‘up dramatically’ from 2-hundred-53 in 2016…to 3-hundred-72, last calendar year.
