A recent local newspaper headline highlighting depleted shelves at food pantries in Manitowoc County moved an area endowment to try and help remedy the situation. George Reis told us at Seehafer News “this was a tremendous concern” to the board of directors of the Helen Gajys-Reis and Lester Reis Endowment Fund for Children.
The poverty rate in our county is at 9%, but a United Way study shows that as many as 42% of Manitowoc residents “struggle to make ends meet”. Many of them are working, but still have to use food pantries. Reis relates a personal family story to show their desire to help with this hunger issue.
He says a separate bank account will be established in the name of Reis Endowment/Food Pantry Account. If you are interested in making a contribution, please send it to Reis Endowment/Food Pantry, P.O. Box 388, Two Rivers WI, 54241, or drop it off at 1523 Washington Street. George Reis said 100% of the Contributions will go directly to three area food pantries. He also stated, “I think as a community we have to step up…as our board has done.”
