The majority leader of the Wisconsin Senate says members of the state Election Commission are violating the law by keeping Michael Haas on the job as chief administrator. Republican Scott Fitzgerald says the commission should select that new administrator as soon as possible. The Senate voted along party lines earlier this week to deny confirmation to Haas and Ethics Commission Administrator Brian Bell. When either of those two posts is vacant, state law gives the commission 45 days to appoint an interim chief. Fitzgerald says the Senate could name an administrator — if the commission doesn’t.
