Yesterday, Baycare Clinic, Aurora Baycare Medical Center and Aurora Medical Center, Manitowoc County jointly announced their donation of eight automated external defibrillators, or AED’s, to be placed throughout various locations in Manitowoc. The announcement was held at the Silver Creek Park Fieldhouse, where one of the devices is now located. Dr. Jeffery Schroeder is an Emergency Medicine Physician based primarily out of Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.
More than 350,000 people will suffer from sudden cardiac arrest this year, which is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Dr. William Witmer is a Cardiologist with Aurora Baycare in Green Bay.
The AED’s were deemed a necessity following a needs study by a local task force, headed by city human resources director Jesse Lillabridge, in collaboration with Dawn Glokoski of Aurora BayCare. Manitowoc Fire Chief Todd Blaeser had this to say.

Cathie Kocourek, the President of Aurora Medical Center, Manitowoc County, also had a chance to speak.
Locations receiving the AED’s are the aforementioned Silver Creek Park Fieldhouse, the Miracle League of the Lakeshore, the Manitowoc Fire Department command vehicle, Lincoln Park Cabin, the Manitowoc Area Visitor and Convention Bureau, the S.S. Badger Carferry, the Manitowoc Youth Baseball Association Complex, and Manitowoc City Hall.
