According to a release by Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels, total approved constructions in 2017 increased by 73% over 2016, marking the strongest year for construction in the history of the city. The total value of the projects reached a total of $61.2 million dollars. Mayor Nickels stated in the release, “None of the $61.2 million in 2017 construction value can be attributed to repairing storm damage, so the projects being constructed better reflect real economic growth.” Some of the biggest projects from last year include the 65,000 square foot expansion at Red Arrow, which was valued at $6 million, Briess Malting’s 24,000 square foot worth $4.3 million, and Aurora’s 18,000 square foot clinic, valued at $3.2 million. Residential construction totaled a whopping $8.3 million, compared to $5.2 million in 2016.
