Damage is estimated at 440-thousand dollars in a weekend fire at a Racine apartment building which has been classified “suspicious.” Firefighters were called shortly before 8:30 p-m Saturday. Fire crews say they encountered heavy fire on the east side of the occupied building when they arrived. Three tenants were able to make it to safety. A neighbor says the entire three-story building was engulfed in flames when he looked out his window. It took about three hours for the firefighters to put out the flames. Working smoke alarms warned residents, helping them escape.
