Several people living in Cudahy say plans for a 13-million dollar Department of Public Works facility don’t show that it is really needed. The first step is spending 350-thousand dollars on a bigger salt shed. Cudahy city officials say their contract with the state requires the purchase of two-thousand tons of salt each year. Some winters, salt is left over at the end of the season and the current salt shed can’t handle the volume. That leaves the city paying for storage. The city says the new shed would take care of the problem and pay for itself in a few years.
