A 75-year-old Manitowoc Rapids man was found dead last evening on his property. Manitowoc County Sheriff Deputy Inspector Jason Orth says that deputies were dispatched about 8:20 pm to check on the welfare of James Schenck after he apparently failed to arrive for a previously scheduled meeting. He was located by deputies in a partially frozen pond on his property. EMS personnel assisted with extracting Schenk from the open water and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Manitowoc—Valders and Branch Fire Departments along with Manitowoc Fire and Rescue and Branch First Responders assisted the Sheriff’s Department on scene. The death remains under investigation by the County Sheriff’s and Coroner’s Offices.
