A Wisconsin native is one of several Naval officers facing criminal charges in fatal accidents involving two ships. Commander Bryce Benson is from Green Bay and a graduate of Marquette University. He commanded the U-S-S Fitzgerald, which was involved in a fatal collision off the coast of Japan last June. Seven sailors were killed. Ten more sailors died in an accident involving the U-S-S John S. McCain last August. Several members of Benson’s ship could be charged. The charges against the officers include dereliction of duty and negligent homicide.
