A 48-year-old Manitowoc man charged with his 6th OWI is free on $1000 cash bail. A causing injury enhancer was also added to the charge against Kenneth R. Root. Police responded to the scene of a two-car crash about 3:15 yesterday afternoon at the corner of North Rapids Road and Broadway Street. Upon arrival officers spoke with root and said he showed signs of intoxication. Root was driving a car with two other male occupants–who told police that root was the driver and turned his vehicle from north rapids road onto Broadway Street in front of the other car causing the crash. He failed multiple sobriety tests and was taken into custody. The driver of the other vehicle—identified as 49-year-old Dayce L. Riederer of Manitowoc—-was trapped in her car. Once removed she was transported to a nearby hospital where she remains at last word with “unspecified injuries.” The two male occupants were not hurt. Conditions of bail are that root not operate any motor vehicle—have “no contact” with any premises that are licensed to sell alcohol and maintain “absolute sobriety” from alcohol and drugs. His initial appearance is scheduled for January 29th at 2:30.
