The City of Manitowoc is being sued by Manitowoc Asset Improvement LLC, citing an order to raze the Riverview Apartments. The company responsible for the management, operation and improvement of the buildings say the order is a malicious attempt to rid the neighborhood of low-income families. The lawsuit was filed Monday in the U.S. District Court following a five-year ordeal between the City of Manitowoc and the owners of the Riverside Apartment buildings. According to the lawsuit, the city is moving forward with plans to obtain a court order to raze the buildings despite efforts from Manitowoc Asset Improvement to repair the buildings. The city did issue 378 citations were Manitowoc Asset Improvement, claiming the buildings failed to meet several building codes, including several fire code violations and smoke detector violations, between January 27th 2016, and May 8th 2017. As of now, now hearings have been scheduled.
