The Portage County Sheriff’s Office reports alcohol and speed were likely contributing factors in a traffic accident early Monday which knocked down some power lines. The 39-year-old Wisconsin Rapids driver has been cited for several violations. A stretch of Wisconsin Highway 54 was closed for almost nine hours because power lines were lying on the road. Wisconsin Public Service crews spent much of New Year’s Day restoring power to customers on a frigid morning. The driver was injured, but not seriously.
