While many families were buying a few last Christmas gifts, or planning for a big holiday meal, cold temperatures have ice fishermen venturing back onto Wisconsin lakes. One ice fisherman says Christmas Eve meant the competition for a good spot on Lake Wausau wasn’t as fierce. One check found ice more than six inches thick Saturday. It’s still too early to drive on the lake and the Department of Natural Resources is still urging sportsmen and women to be cautious. The D-N-R advises newbies to bring along an experienced partner before venturing onto the ice this winter.
