The Racine County Sheriff’s Office is considering the purchase of a full-body scanner to process the 10-thousand people who enter its jail each year. The machinery would be similar to the ones used at U-S airports. Sheriff Christopher Schmaling says the opioid epidemic has people hiding drugs in their body cavities in an effort to get them inside the jail. The scanner purchase isn’t a part of the 2018 Racine County budget. Schmaling wants to look at the 120-thousand dollar scanner neighboring Kenosha County is planning to install before making a final decision.
