The man dubbed the “Halloween Killer” is scheduled for release in February after more than 35 years behind bars. Gerald Turner was convicted of sexually assaulting and murdering a nine-year-old trick-or-treater in 1973. Lisa French’s mother now lives in Florida. She has started an online petition urging Wisconsin officials to stop Turner’s release and understand that he is still a danger. Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric Toner says he will decide whether to file a motion to commit Turner to a mental health institution as a sexually violent person after receiving records from the Department of Corrections. Turner’s crimes led lawmakers to create the state’s sexual predator law.
