Driver Dies When Pickup Rolls Into Racine Pond

Racine police report a man died Monday night when his pickup went out of control and rolled into a pond.  An off-duty firefighter was nearby and he jumped into the water to try to rescue the driver, but wasn’t able to do get him out of the sunken truck.  Emergency crews finally located the body and the man was pronounced dead.  His name hasn’t been released.  Police say he was the vehicle’s only occupant.  Investigators are still trying to determine why the pickup went into the pond located between Chase Bank and Toys R Us on Green Bay Road in Racine.
