Sky Watchers Look For Geminid Meteor Shower This Week

There are advantages to living in the city, but very few for sky-watchers.  The Geminid meteor shower will peak Wednesday evening and early Thursday.  Best viewing will be between midnight and 4:00 a-m Thursday.  It’s one of the most reliable meteor showers of the year, with up to 120 meteors lighting up the sky.  There’s too much ambient light in cities for an observer to get the full impact.  Newport State Park is Wisconsin’s only Dark Sky Park and an ideal location for meteor watching.  Newport is on the eastern shore of Door County, with no cities nearby.
