A man who engaged Madison police in a seven-hour standoff before giving up has been transferred to the V-A hospital for evaluation. Thirty-eight-year-old Christopher Hayden is accused of threatening his neighbor with a gun Thursday afternoon. Police say Hayden was going through some personal issues which complicated the situation. That neighbor had knocked on his door shortly before 3:00 p-m to return a lost dog when Hayden threatened him. Police are giving credit to trained crisis negotiators for convincing him to come outside, even though the incident started with him refusing to cooperate.
