A Green Bay couple has been raising money for a local homeless shelter by hosting an annual Thanksgiving run/walk called the Mash Dash. Eight years ago, the Helgesons started a family tradition of going for a short run, and as more people began to join them, they turned the Thanksgiving tradition into a charity event. The event has been raising money for Freedom House, a local homeless shelter, and this year raised around $4,500. The Mash Dash included a two-mile run/walk and a half-mile kids run. No registration was needed. But people were encouraged to make a donation of money or non-perishable food. Prevea matched the cash donations, and Freedom House says this was the biggest turnout yet.
