A former church secretary near La Crosse has been sentenced to four years in a federal prison for stealing 832-thousand dollars from the collection plate. Fifty-nine-year-old Barbara Snyder was sentenced Thursday in Madison by federal Judge James Peterson. That’s after she pleaded guilty in August to wire fraud and filing a false income tax return. Investigators say Snyder destroyed collection records and kept false accounting data to hide donations from Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Onalaska from 2006 through 2015. She later told officers she gambled the money away.
