Most Democrats who’ve announced their bids for governor say they support a bill to let any state resident purchase Wisconsin’s BadgerCare. The long running Medicaid program now covers only those below the poverty line, which is 20-thousand dollars a year for a family of three. State Assembly Democrat Eric Genrich of Green Bay says he’s encouraged by the growing support his plan is receiving. Governor Scott Walker’s office is not saying whether the Republican Walker would support the measure. It would allow state residents above the poverty line to buy BadgerCare coverage at what the state pays for it. Most Democrats running for governor and other health advocates say it would be more economical alternative to Obamacare. Republicans say it would be unsustainable and it would not reimburse doctors for the full cost of the care they provide.
