Unemployment numbers for both Manitowoc and Manitowoc County declined in September. Numbers released this afternoon by the State Department of Workforce Development show the city with a jobless rate of three-point-six percent. That’s a half-of-a-percent less than August’s rate of four-point-one percent and four-point-two percent from September of 2016. The county’s jobless rate is three-point-two percent—a four tenths of a percent less than August and from last September’s number of three-point-nine percent. Preliminary September 2017 rates decreased in the state’s 32 largest municipalities and all 72 counties when compared over the year to last September. September’s local rates follow last week’s Bureau of Labor statistics monthly estimates showing a seasonally adjusted state unemployed rate of three-and-a-half percent. Continuing unemployment claims in Wisconsin are running at the lowest in at least the last thirty years.
