Manitowoc County Executive Bob Zigelbauer announced a series of public hearings which will revolve around the possible implementation of a half percent sales tax. These hearing will be on November 20th in Maribel at the Village Hall, on November 27th at the Heritage Center, and on December 4th in Kiel. Anyone who wants to voice their opinion to the County Finance Committee can do so at these meetings. Zigelbauer clarified, that the money raised from the tax increase would go to the county, not the local cities. Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels has asked that the money be given to the cities and municipalities for road infrastructure only. Current law states that only counties can implement the tax, and can delegate where the money is to be dispersed. Manitowoc County is one of only six counties in Wisconsin without the half percent sales tax.
