The state Justice Department is investigating the wounding of a suspect by a city police officer in downtown Ashland. Mayor Debra Lewis said it happened just after 7:30 Monday night, when two officers responded and one of them shot and wounded the suspect. No names were immediately released. Ashland County Sheriff Michael Brennan said the suspect was eventually transferred to a hospital in Duluth, Minnesota — and no law enforcement personnel were hurt. The suspect’s condition and injury extent were not disclosed, either. Officials say no other suspects were involved.
