Wisconsin Assembly Democrat Cory Mason will become the next mayor of Racine. He received almost 55-percent of the vote in a special election Tuesday against City Council member Sandy Weidner. Mason says he’s excited about moving Racine forward, rebuilding the middle class, and “getting people ready for the opportunities” from the new Foxconn high tech plant to be built in nearby Mount Pleasant. Mason will fill an 18 month unexpired term after John Dickert left in July to become the new C-E-O of the Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence Cities’ Initiative. Mason leaves the state Legislature after eleven years including nine in the minority party — and he says he can serve Racine better as its mayor, noting that the amount he could accomplish in the Legislature was “limited.”
